Rumours that the British property development company could be about to snapped up in a takeover bid were back in play on Tuesday.

The Independent reported that “vague rumours” suggesting the Bullring and Brent Cross owner could be up for grabs led a late rally with Hammerson shares up 3.2p at 420.5p by the close of market.

At the moment an unnamed Middle East sovereign wealth fund is thought to be a possible buyer, with the Independent suggesting a potential bid could be worth up to 650p a share.

It’s not the first time Hammerson has been linked to a take-over this year, with Australian property giant Westfield also recently cited as a possible buyer.
