M&S’ new 900,000 sq ft depot in Castle Donington, Leicestershire, has encountered significant problems which may prevent stock to pass through the warehouse and into stores. The problems have yet to specifically identified, but insiders are warning that M&S’ crucial pre-Christmas rush could be affected.

Sir Stuart Rose, the former chief executive of Marks & Spencer, has defended the Government’s controversial ‘Get Britain Working’ scheme, and accused protestors of trying to “sabotage” retailers’ efforts to offer people work experience. Speaking on Sky News’ Murnaghan programme on Sunday, Sir Stuart said it was “baffling” that anyone would complain about jobless people being offered roles in the retail industry when youth unemployed remains at a record high.
Banks eye Robert Dyas sale Friday, 29th July 2011
The banks that control debt-ridden hardware chain Robert Dyas are considering putting the business up for sale following a return to profitability.
The company has recently conducted talks with a slew of potential advisors. The process is being led by Geoff Brady, the company’s non-executive chairman and former Kingfisher director. Cavendish Corporate Finance is set to be appointed to advise the board on its options related to the sale of the business.
The sale of the DIY chain is not expected to command a price tag higher than £25m, according to sources.
Cavendish, Robert Dyas and its lenders all declined to comment on the possible sale, first reported on Sky News.
