One year on and Westfield Stratford continues to break records

Stratford City yesterday announced a record breaking 47 million people had walked through its doors since opening a year ago. The sprawling mall, which yesterday celebrated its first birthday, said it had received 8.5 million visitors over the course of the Olympics and Paralympics alone.

The Kooples to open new boutique at Liverpool One

French fashion brand The Kooples will continue its UK expansion with a new boutique at Liverpool One’s Peter’s Lane in the spring. The new store will be the label’s second in the North West, and will trade across 1,875 sq ft. The deal follows a record year for Grosvenor’s scheme, with sales at Liverpool One up 10 per cent in 2011 compared to 2010.

Greggs goes head-to-head with X Factor for Christmas number one

The sausage roll aficionado will crowd source lyrics for a festive song released on 19 December in time to compete for Christmas number one. Greggs is asking its friends on Facebook and Twitter to submit ideas for a festive song as it looks to “capture the festive spirit of customers”. The resulting song will be recorded by indie ban Silvers and released on iTunes on 19 December, with all profit raised from sales going to forces charity Help for Heroes.

On Her Majesty’s Service: Kingfisher strikes deal in Russia Monday, 12th September 2011





As David Cameron begins his one-day visit to the country, B&Q owner Kingfisher announced plans to expand its Castorama brand across Russia, with nine new store openings planned as far east as Ekaterinburg.

Accompanying the prime minister on his trip to Moscow, Kingfisher chief executive Ian Cheshire is one of a handful businessmen Downing Street have pinned hopes on as David Cameron looks to build better relationships between the UK and Russia.

Cheshire told press: "Russia represents a major opportunity for Kingfisher. Our trading performance there has been encouraging and we look forward to opening these nine new Castorama stores and many more in the future."

Kingfisher is one of the first British retailers to begin a more aggressive expansion in Russia, who, along with Burberry and Next, intend to tap into the increasing wealth of the country’s middle classes.
