Online food shopping to double in next five years

Online food and grocery sales are expected to double by 2017, according to a new report from IGD. The food and grocery experts found the online food and grocery market is set to be worth £11.1 billion by 2017, almost double its current value of £5.6 billion. IGD research found nearly 44 per cent of respondents expected to use the internet to buy their groceries in the next five to 10 years, while 58 per cent of shoppers surveyed said technology helped to save them money.

Brits urge Aldi and Lidl to set up shop

Half of all shoppers would do their weekly food shop at Aldi and Lidl if there was a store near them. A new study by IGD also found that 5 per cent of shoppers now use a discounter for their main shopping trip, almost double the amount last year. IGD reported that discounters are most popular with younger shoppers and families with teenage children.

Online grocery market to double its money over next five years in “digital explosion”

The online grocery market is set to double in value to £11.2 billion by 2016. According to industry analysts IGD, online purchases will account for 3.8 per cent of total grocery spend in the UK and is projected to increase to 6 per cent in five years time. The IGD Shopper Track research found that 44 per cent of shoppers surveyed intend to shop online for their groceries in the next five years to 10 years, compared to just 17 per cent who are doing so now.
