Lloydspharmacy to launch network across Europe with 90 new pilot pharmacies

Lloydspharmacy owner Celesio AG on Tuesday announced it is gearing up to launch its Lloyds Pharmacy Network across Europe, increasing the number of pilot pharmacies from 5 to 95. Despite a comparatively weak first quarter, Celesio chief executive Markus Pinger said the company anticipated a stronger second quarter, having made “very good process” with its realignment of Celesio.

Amazon's Leipzig factory. Amazon workers in Germany have been called on to stage a strike to persuade the online retailing giant to improve pay and benefits. According to Reuters, German labour union Ver.di on Tuesday announced a strike that will start at 6am local time and last until the end of the late shift.

Seemingly unperturbed by profit warnings, luxury brand Mulberry is set to ramp up expansion plans over the current fiscal year, eyeing new locations across northern Europe, Asia, the US and Canada. According to WWD, Mulberry’s first stand-alone store located on Belin’s Kurfürstendamm is the first of a handful planned for Germany.

 Eurozone retail sales drop 3.6% for October

Retail sales volumes in the Eurozone fell 1.2 per cent for October according to data published by Eurostat on Wednesday, meaning sales were 3.6 per cent lower than a year before. Portugal took the biggest hit, with sales dropping 4.5 per cent between September and October.

May brings light relief to eurozone retail sales, but stormy outlook remains

Retail sales in the eurozone rose by 0.6 per cent in May, but the long-term trend showed little relief for the industry. Year-on-year sales at shops across the 17-member eurozone fell 1.7 per cent and by 0.3 per cent in the 27- member European Union. In a note to clients, Olivier Bizimana at Morgan Stanley on Wednesday stated: "Europe's debt crisis is likely to have a lasting impact on consumption.

Primark’s parent company Associated British Foods (ABF) has said that it will continue to expand in the eurozone, despite fears of a long term recession for the continent. According to the Guardian, Primark is currently preparing for another batch of store openings for its second half, including four more outlets in Spain.
