Marks & Spencer is feeling the wrath of disgruntled shoppers after banning them from trying on clothes during the post-Christmas sales. The department store deployed signs saying: “To stop queues building up that might disrupt your shopping, the changing rooms will be closed over the sales period” resulting in a backlash from customers.

Debenhams unveils £25m Oxford St makeover

Much to the delight of Christmas shoppers already packing out central London, Debenhams has finally unveiled its new-look Oxford Street flagship, a makeover ringing in at £25 million for the retailer. Debenhams, which celebrates its 200 year anniversary in 2013, spent 12 months refurbishing its seven storey flagship department store, now complete with an extra floor of trading space, a 25 metre glass atrium ceiling and the retailer’s largest ever beauty hall.

OFT accuses DB Apparel and three department stores of anti-competitive price fixing

Three department stores have today been accused of price fixing with leading underwear brand DB Apparel on a range of Shock Absorber sports bras. Debenhams, House Of Fraser, and John Lewis are all being accused by the Office of Fair Trading of being in serious breach of competition law, by agreeing fixed or minimum prices for the bras.

With just over a month to go until Debenhams’ full year results, the department store group on Tuesday revealed it is on track to meet City forecasts. The retailer, which operates 172 stores across the UK, Ireland and Denmark, this morning released a trading update ahead of its full year results in the 52 weeks to 31 August.
