Govt and suppliers to spend £3.4m on nurturing home-grown talent

As Pret A Manger deals with another round of press attention over its recruitment process, the government has announced a new multimillion-pound strategy designed to reduce the food and drink industry’s reliance on migrant workers. Some £3.4 million will be spent creating a new UK centre of excellence of food production engineering, a gold standard for trainees and a commitment by leading companies to provide at least 600 jobs for unemployed young people.

Coca-Cola, Chupa Chups and Nutella voted most misleading marketing claims of 2011

The Children’s Food Campaign has listed Coca-Cola, Tango, Nutella and Chupa-Chups as having made the “dodgiest” junk food advertising claims in 2011. Chupa Chups topped the line-up which Children’s Food Campaign director Kawther Hashem described as featuring “shamelessly misleading” adverts with “half truths and “made-up so-called facts”.
