Samsung creeps in on Apple’s share of smartphone market

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd managed to move in on rival Apple Inc.’s market share in the latest quarter, as sales of its phones rose to account for one third of the global market. Research from IDC found sales of the iPhone 5 helped Apple’s volumes grow 6.6 per cent to 37.4 million phones in the quarter from a year before, but it wasn’t enough to stop its share of the market falling to 17.3 per cent from 23 per cent.

Samsung revealed its latest smartphone model, the Galaxy S4 at a conference in Manhattan last night. The new phone is expected to be on sale before the end of April and will be sold in 155 countries. It is the fourth device to be developed as part of the Galaxy S brand which debuted in 2010. The exact release date of the device and its launch price were not announced at the event.

UK High Court dismisses Samsung's patent infringement claim against Apple Friday, 8th March 2013

The UK High Court has dismissed a claim from Samsung that Apple Inc infringed several of Samsung’s patents with its use of 3G networks, the latest of a long series of court battles between the two leading phone manufacturers. Although it was Samsung who filed this particular suit, it was Apple who began the first of the many court cases which the two companies have been involved in, after they accused Samsung of infringing on their intellectual property.
