Marks & Spencer posts another fall in profits Tuesday, 21st May 2013
The department store group on Tuesday reported pre-tax profits fell to £564.3 million in the year to 30 March, down from £658 million the year before. Despite group sales rising 1.3 per cent to £10 billion, Marks & Spencer’s general merchandise lines continued to struggle, falling 4.1 per cent year-on-year and dragging down the performance of the business as a whole.

Marks & Spencer next in line to face criticism for corporate tax structure Monday, 20th May 2013
Marks & Spencer has become embroiled in the corporate tax debacle which has seen tax campaigners criticise big companies about the way they structure its online sales to Europe. The Guardian has recently launched an investigation into companies who appear to be exploiting lenient tax rules by invoicing transactions to countries with the lowest corporate tax rates.

Ocado and Morrisons deal nets £1.5 million for Sir Stuart Rose Monday, 20th May 2013
The former chief executive of Marks & Spencer and now Ocado chairman, Sir Stuart Rose, has reportedly seen his personal wealth rise by GBP 1.5 million following the delivery group’s deal with Morrisons, the Mail on Sunday reports. The retail veteran owns 1.2 million shares in Ocado, 450,000 of which were acquired as a result of his appointment as chairman on March 11.

Marks & Spencer opens new Bahrain store Thursday, 16th May 2013
Marks & Spencer this week celebrated another international store opening at the launch of its new Bahrain City Centre shop. The new 27,630 square feet store features the retailer’s new store format, covering clothing, beauty, footwear, lingerie and food. Speaking at the launch, John Cooper, managing director of Marks & Spencer Al-Futtaim said: “We’re delighted to have opened the 1st new full format store in Bahrain City Centre and believe that Bahrain is a burgeoning market for M&S.

Tesco acquisition on Sandbanks' millionaire row proves contraversial Thursday, 16th May 2013
Wealthy residents of the Sandbanks millionaire’s row remain perplexed by the acquisition of a Tesco Express, which plans to open in July. Residents from Dorset have expressed their frustration by claiming that the convenience store will be an ‘eyesore’ and that it would look ‘like a filling in a set of teeth’, the Daily Mail reports.

M & S new 900,000 sq ft warehouse will help improve online sales Thursday, 9th May 2013
Marks & Spencer have opened a 900,000 sq ft warehouse in Castle Donington in a bid to improve its online trading. The clothing and homeware retailer currently only sells 15 per cent of its products online, 20 per cent less than major rival Next. The new facilities will mean the retailer will be able to deal with 1m orders a day, compared with a few hundred currently.
