New research from Owned It reveals only 7 per cent of the UK’s leading online retailers encourage social sharing after a product has been purchased. While there has been plenty of work on improving abandoned basket rates and interaction over social media channels, it seems many retailers are falling short the minute a sale is confirmed.
WH Smith voted worst store by consumers Friday, 17th May 2013
Consumer watchdog Which? has found that WH Smith is Britain’s worst store, according to a consumer poll of 100 high street brands. At the other end of the scale, Apple were crowned the best store knocking off last year’s winner Lush, who finished a respectable second, with the Disney Store coming in at third.

House of Fraser will open its first store outside of the UK and Ireland in Abu Dhabi later this year, as it prepares to anchor The Mall at World Trade Centre. Expected to launch early in the second half of the year, House of Fraser’s new store will occupy three levels, joining H&M, BHS, Ted Baker and Pandora at the new shopping centre.
‘Best ever’ Christmas for House of Fraser as sales rise 6.3% Monday, 7th January 2013
House of Fraser on Monday revealed a 6.3 per cent rise in like-for-like sales excluding VAT over Christmas, in what it described as its ‘best ever Christmas sales period’. The department store group, which operates 60 stores across the UK and Ireland, said it had seen a positive sales performance both in-store and online, with record-breaking online sales up 48 per cent in the 6 weeks to 5 January 2013.

House of Fraser’s executive chairman Don McCarthy is reported to be involved in talks with a number of interested buyers for the department store, including Sports Direct and its owner Mike Ashley. According to the Guardian, McCarthy would not comment on speculation surrounding the sale, but insisted he would look after the interests of the shareholders.

House of Fraser sales rise 5.4% for third quarter Wednesday, 5th December 2012
House of Fraser saw like for like sales rise 5.4 per cent for its third quarter, with online sales up 50 per cent in the 13 weeks to 27 October. The department store group said store refurbishments had continued to drive a solid performance on the high street, while the continued development of the retailer’s online operations has led to a 56.6 per cent increase in sales growth for the year to the end of the third quarter.
