London’s legendary Harrods store is planning a fashion spectacle in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  The luxury department store will be showcasing a pop-up ballgown and crown boutique which will open on the 15th of May, taking inspiration from the  V&A’s exhibition 'Ballgowns: British Glamour since 1950'.

The gowns have been designed and created by fashion names, such as Erdem, Marchesa, Ralph & Russo, Carolina Herrera, Toujouri, J. Mendel, Roberto Cavalli, Nina Ricci, Jenny Packham, Elie Saab and Valentino

Customers will be able to view the bespoke gowns and crowns within a selection of the store’s Brompton Road windows, and those wishing to make a purchase will have the opportunity to visit The Penthouse, Harrods’ personal shopping suite with a tailored, one-to-one shopping experience.

The other window spaces within the Harrods store will be bejewelled with the collection of unique crowns that have been based on a replica of St Edward’s coronation crown. The crowns have been designed by some of the leading brands sold at Harrods, including Paul Smith, De Beers, Tiffany & Co, Boucheron, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, Mulberry, Fabergé, Shu Uemura, Jo Malone and Lanvin.

Sainsbury’s picks up the tab for Diamond Jubilee festival Saturday, 7th January 2012

Sainsbury’s is to reinforce its place at the heart of British life next year as it helps to bankroll the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The grocer is the very first corporate sponsor to pick up the tab for a major event marking the monarch’s 60-year reign.

It will host a three-day open-air festival in Hyde Park, beginning on 2 June, and is also in early talks to help fund the £10 million Thames river pageant that will form the showpiece of the celebrations.

The high street stalwart is believed to be one of several major donors in talks to pay for the river pageant, whose organisers are relying on a £2 million VAT rebate from Chancellor George Osborne.

The Government has so far provided £1 million to the Queen to cover her travel and official engagements throughout the celebrations but other events rely on fundraising and corporate donations.

Sainsbury’s is planning to recoup the cost of its three-day “Pageant in the Park” by setting up ‘brand activation areas’ where dozens of partner firms can promote their goods and services to crowds of up to 50,000 per day.

Marching bands, orchestras, musicals and Commonwealth dancers are expected to grace the event, touted as an opportunity to “showcase Britain through the ages”.

A Sainsbury's spokeswoman said: "We are looking at a number of ways to celebrate the exciting events taking place this summer, such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"We are still at the early planning stages on some of this activity and will be sharing our plans over the coming months."
