‘Lipstick effect’ brings boost in beauty sales Friday, 26th April 2013
Long-dubbed the ‘lipstick effect’ for the rise in beauty sales correlating to a dip in consumer confidence, it seems British shoppers are still resorting to small luxury purchases to boost their mood. The latest report from Mintel found spending on beauty and personal care products has increased 11 per cent since the beginning of the credit crisis in 2007.

Yves Saint Laurent next in line to be introduced to chinese customers Friday, 12th April 2013
The Yves Saint Laurent Beaute (YSL) beauty line will be launched in China this May, with the first counter set to open in Shanghai. The luxury french cosmetic brand is L’Oréal Luxe’s newest addition for the Chinese Market. The brand offers a range of high-quality luxury beauty products, with which Chinese customers will be offered cosmetics, fragrances and skin-care items especially tailored for Asian customers.

Avon to withdraw from the Irish market Monday, 8th April 2013
Leading cosmetics brand Avon has announced that it intends to cut 400 employees from its workforce and make its exit from the Irish market. Avon announced its withdrawal from the Republic of Ireland in a press release in which it is also stated its intention to withdraw from other recently underperforming markets in Europe, Africa and the Middle East by the end of 2013.

Alliance Boots to cut 200 jobs from its contract manufacturer Saturday, 30th March 2013

Leading pharmaceutical and cosmetics firm Alliance Boots plans to cut 200 of its workers currently employed in BCM, the company’s contract manufacturer. The cuts are a reaction to reduced demand for contract manufacturing in today’s market. The intention is for the 200 employees to be reassigned to other areas of Alliance Boots over the next two years.

Net-A-Porter announces move into beauty Saturday, 16th March 2013
Net-A-Porter is set to launch a much-awaited beauty collection later this month as it looks to continue its stellar growth rate of 2012. The luxury fashion e-tailer on Friday announced it would make its first steps into the world of beauty retailing, launching its DEBUT edit of beauty brands online on 20 March.

EU bans sale of all animal-tested cosmetics Tuesday, 12th March 2013
Sale of animal-tested cosmetics is now under a complete ban in all European Union countries. The EU announced a ban of animal-testing in all 27 of its countries as early as 2009, but the new regulations prevent animal-tested products from all over the world being distributed in the EU. The EU commission spent EUR 238 million from 2007 to 2011 in their research for alternatives to animal testing.

MAC to open innovative flagship store on the Champs-Elysées Saturday, 2nd March 2013
MAC Cosmetics is set to launch their new flagship store on Champs-Elysées, Paris on Friday, according to WWD.com. This store will be MAC’s third-largest store, the two New York sites being the only two to surpass it. The 4,022-square-foot property is situated in the busy Champs-Elysées that attracts more than 170 million people annually.

L’Oréal plans to buy back €500m in shares Tuesday, 12th February 2013
L’Oréal is planning to spend around a third of its net cash (£428 million) buying back shares as it recorded a rise in fourth quarter sales.
