Poundworld creates 1,800 jobs Friday, 26th August 2011
The fixed price retailer has pledged to create 1,800 jobs today as it unveiled a new brand of store designs to fill the gap in the market left by Woolworths.
Poundworld, which currently operates 120 stores in the UK, is now set on growing its Discount UK brand, which sells products priced from 28p to £25.
The retailer will add 15 stores to the 13-strong portfolio as it looks to transform the chain into a national chain.
Buying director Chris Edwards, who founded Discount UK, said: "Woolworths offered variety and value and when it closed we felt we could step into its shoes with a modern multi-price format."
Along with Discount UK, Poundworld will also open a further 40 stores over the next 12 months after experiencing a 42 per cent rise in sales to £132.9 million in the year to March.
