Never one to shy away from the lime light, American Apparel is under fire again after launching a 36 hour flash sale timed to coincide with Hurricane Sandy.

The LA-based brand sent an email to customers offering a 20 per cent discount for online shoppers along the East Coast, including New York City, where mass evacuations and power outages brought the metropolis to a standstill last night.

The email, which told customers- “In case you’re bored during the storm, 20% off everything for the next 36 hours.”- has faced much criticism across Twitter and Facebook, with many stating they would now boycott the brand.
