Tesco on Tuesday announced UK fresh food commercial director Andrew Yaxley would leave his post for a new management role.
UK commercial director John Scouler will replace Yaxley, as Tesco looks to strengthen its fresh food offering.
"At Tesco we place great emphasis on developing our colleagues to ensure we have the best possible pipeline of general management talent for the future," said a Tesco spokesman.
"Andrew's development programme is just one example of this and it happens at every level of the business."
According to Reuters, a number of analysts were surprised by Tesco’s strategic move, given the recent profit warnings sent out for its UK business.
