Sony Corp will shut down operations in a Tokyo office that houses 8 per cent of its Japan staff, as the company looks to cut 10,000 jobs across the globe.

The Japanese multinational firm will close its Shinagawa Technology Centre, with 4,800 of the staff employed at the centre relocated to lower-cost facilities.

According to Reuters, the move is expected to be completed by September next year, and is intended to cut costs for the company as it looks to realign the parts of its business which remain loss-making.

Sony has previously announced that it plans to cut its global workforce by 10,000 people by 31 March, with 4,000 job cuts coming from Japan.
