Tesco to launch organic vegetable box scheme in London Friday, 19th October 2012

In a move likely to garner yet more controversy from rivals and smaller independent retailers, Tesco is preparing to launch Soil & Seed, an organic vegetable box scheme in London this November.

Exclusive to Tesco, Soil & Seed is owned by organic vegetable supplier Tio, and will soft launch next month across the capital. It’s though the vegetable boxes will cover a range of sizes and offer fruit and salad as well as being Soil Association certified organic, according to a report by the Grocer.

It’s not the first time the UK’s largest retailer has dipped its toe in the organic, artisan foodie-culture originally seen as an antithesis to Tesco’s hold on the retail sector. It emerged in August that the group had also taken a 49 per cent share in independent coffee house chain Harris and Hoole as it geared up for a UK expansion.
