Tesco to bring Fresh & Easy products to the UK Thursday, 18th October 2012

Tesco has announced plans to sell Fresh & Easy products in UK-based stores today.

The five-year-old American start-up, which clocked up £74 million in losses for the first half of 2012, has failed to turn a healthy business in the US as Tesco boss Philip Clarke hoped it would.

Around ten Fresh & Easy products, including vegetable kits for stews, will reach all stores in the UK within weeks, with the range of products expected to expand over time.

Use of the Fresh & Easy brand name may trigger a royalty payment to the US-based chain that could provide a shot in the arm for its financial performance, analysts have suggested.

Less than 30 per cent of the stores make a positive contribution and Mr. Clarke has recently reiterated the need for improvement, simply stating that “we need more from Fresh & Easy”.
