Yihaodian to open 1,000 virtual stores Tuesday, 16th October 2012

Yihaodian, China’s biggest online retailer, is planning to open 1,000 virtual supermarkets.

The supermarkets will allow shoppers to look at photos of items available to buy using their smartphones.

The new supermarkets will be around 1,200 square feet and will stock around 1,000 virtual items.

Effectively, the stores will be blank spaces in which customers are able to see items using an Augmented Reality smartphone app.

The first of the shops are slated to open in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, in southern China.
