WH Smith CEO to step down in 2013 Thursday, 11th October 2012

WH Smith CEO Kate Swann is to step down from her role on 30 June 2013 after a nine year stint working for the company.

Managing director Steve Clarke will eventually replace Ms. Swann.

The news comes as the stationer reported a 10 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to £102 million for the year to the end of August.

Shares in WH Smith fell seven per cent in early trading in London.

Ms. Swann took up leadership of the business in 2003 when WH Smith was losing market share at a worrying pace, before having to manage one of the biggest losses in the retailer’s history in her first year of employment.
