Etsy hires first UK chief ahead of expansion strategy Monday, 8th October 2012

Etsy has appointed its very first UK chief before it sets plans for major expansion into action.

Nicole Vanderbilt has been hired as UK country manager.

The company is planning to utilise £24.8 million raised in its most recent funding round to hire staff to help double turnover in Britain within a year.

USD 538 million worth of goods were sold through Etsy in the last year, with a third of this being bought by customers overseas. Only USD 33 million came from goods being sold by Etsy users based in Europe, however.

After being founded in 2005, the website now receives around 42 million unique visitors per month.
