M&S to add 1,000 new jobs to boost multi-channel Friday, 28th September 2012

Almost a thousand new jobs will be created for Marks & Spencer at its new distribution centre in Leicestershire.

Opening in early 2013, the department store’s Castle Donnington site is set to ramp up the retailer’s online operations, enabling it to compete with the major players in multi-channel for the UK.

“Castle Donington is a key part of our strategy for the future,” said IT and logistics director Darrell Stein in a report by the Grocer.

“The new distribution centre will help us deliver our goal of being a leading multi-channel retailer by 2015 and allow us to better serve our customers with improved product availability and extended delivery options.”

Built on the site of the former Castle Donnington power station, the new centre will measure 900,000 sq ft, making in one of the biggest buildings in the East Midlands.
