John Lewis clocks £144.5m HY profit Thursday, 13th September 2012

John Lewis has revealed a boost in half-year profits after sales growth remained strong at its department stores as well as its sister supermarket chain, Waitrose.

The company made a pre-tax profit of £144.5 million in the six months to 28 July, up 60% from the same period in 2011.

Like-for-like sales at the department stores were up 9.2 per cent. Waitrose LFLs were up 2.2 per cent.

The Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics are believed to have helped John Lewis complete a successful half year.

Total half-year revenues across the partnership were up £3.9 billion, up 9 per cent from the year before.
