Strong demand seen for Whiteley Shopping Centre with almost 80% pre-let Tuesday, 11th September 2012

As one of only two shopping centres to open in 2013, Whiteley Shopping Centre is now 78 per cent let by rent as ten more retailers including River Island, Paperchase, Moss and Costa sign up.

A joint venture between British Land and Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited (USS), Whiteley is anchored by Marks & Spencer, Next and Tesco, and is on schedule to open by spring 2013.

The £64 million development will be located around a new town square for Whiteley, with H&M, Boots, JD Sports, Sports Direct and Starbucks all taking space in the centre.

“Whiteley Shopping Centre is one of only two new schemes opening in 2013 and we are continuing to see strong retailer demand for space.” Claire Barber, head of shopping centre asset management for British Land told press.

“We are delighted to be 78% let or under offer with eight months to go until opening. The recent lettings continue to prove that Whiteley can deliver what retailers want: the right location, affordable rents and the right type of space in a high quality environment.”

Comprising of 320,000 sq ft of retail space, River Island, Clarks, The Entertainer, Mamas and Papas, Schuh, Paperchase, Claire’s, Moss, Costa and Prezzo are some of the final retailers to sign, with a further 12 units said to be in solicitors hands.
