Do keep up darling. Fashion editors, buyers and IT Girls a-plenty may be hitting the streets of Manhattan this weekend for the New York Fashion Week, but according to the latest research, London’s still the place to be for those that take fashion to heart.
New York came in second place to the UK's capital city on the Global Language Monitor (GLM), an annual list that tracks interest on the Internet and in the media, with Paris, Barcelona and Madrid close behind.
And if the results are anything to go by, apparently we have Kate Middleton to thank as our most successful fashion export. Speaking to Reuters, President of the GLM, Paul Payak said that the Duchess of Cambridge and the 2012 Summer Olympics had helped keep London on the top spot for the second year in a row.
"Kate Middleton has proved to be incredibly impactful on the British fashion brand," Payack told Reuters, adding that a recent survey showed her influence has contributed to millions of pounds (dollars) in sales this year. "The second thing is the Olympics being in the UK."
Behind London and New York, Paris came in third position, with Spain seeing both Barcelona and Madrid feature in the top five cities.
The GLM report analysed content across the Internet, blogosphere and top 175,000 print and electronic global media to compile the ranking.
