eBay buys Pinterest rival Svpply Friday, 7th September 2012

Retail curation website Svpply has been acquired by eBay for an undisclosed amount.

The deal will see eBay take on Svpply’s team of six designers and developers as it looks to advance eBay’s online shopping experience. According to eBay, the new Svpply employees will work on merchandising, non-search discovery and browsing for the ecommerce giant.

Founded in 2009, Svpply has since honed a niche for itself in the growing popularity for curated and bookmarking sites such as Pinterest and Lyst, where users can scour the web for purchases they want to save for later, and collate them together to form an online visual shopping list.

Svpply confirmed in a company post on its website that it “is not going away”, and will continue to work on developing the Svpply platform as well as contributing to eBay.
