Olympics hurt UK retail, according to BRC Tuesday, 4th September 2012

UK retail sales were lower in August as the Olympics hurt store traffic, according to a survey carried out by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

BRC director general Stephen Robertson said there was “no evidence here of any Olympic boost to retail sales overall”.

Stores in central London saw a steep drop in visitors for the duration of the Olympic Games.

The BRC also said “lower footfall in London was offset by a better performance in the rest of the country”.
