The Swedish furniture giant revealed on Thursday it had sold its trademark to one of its own subsidiaries, Inter IKEA Systems, for EUR 9 billion. Based in Amsterdam, Inter IKEA Systems has worked at the heart of the retailer since 1983.

The transaction was aimed at “consolidating and simplifying the group's structure,” Inter IKEA Group's head of communications Anders Bylund told AFP.

As an unlisted, family-owned company, the deal marks the first time the company has put a book value on the brand.
