John Lewis reports “trailblazing performance” for annual online sales Thursday, 9th August 2012

The UK’s largest department store group has revealed online sales rose 43.5 per cent over the past year, thanks to a streamlined delivery system and closer relations with subsidiary companies.

Speaking in light of the annual sales, managing director Andy Street said: “We managed to achieve growth in both shops and online,” adding that e-commerce is now the retailer’s fastest growing channel.

“The trailblazing performance throughout the year was by JohnLewis.com, where sales leapt by over 40%,” Street says. “All product categories thrived, but most encouraging is the increase in our rate of conversion, a testament to our operation.”

Street went on to add that by streamlining the group’s delivery systems and developing better relationships with its subsidiary companies, John Lewis was able to double its click and collect business, “thanks largely to the collaboration with Waitrose”.

John Lewis opened its first store on Oxford Street in 1864, and now operates 36 department stores across the UK.
