Marks & Spencer this week opened the doors to its brand new Kazakh store in the country’s largest city, Almaty.

The British department store’s unit occupies three floors in the city’s shopper centre, with its Autograph range taking a prominent position.

Jan Heere, M&S’s international director, said the expansion into Kazakhstan was just one in many expected as part of the retailer’s international store roll-out.

“With over 40 stores in Russia and Ukraine, our new Kazakh store builds on our established presence in the region which we will continue to grow over the next few years,” he said in a statement.

M&S chose Fawaz Alhokair Fashion Retail as its local partner for the Kazakh region, after working with the leading retail franchise group to launch ten stores in Saudi Arabia back in 2001.
