Halfords and Mothercare braced for high street judgement day Monday, 16th July 2012

Quarterly sales reports released on Thursday are expected to deal another blow to the high street, as Halfords and Mothercare prepare to deliver some tough trading figures.

According to the Daily Mail, outdoor and bicycle retailer Halfords will reveal struggling sales after warning in May that its early summer performance had been ‘very disappointing’.

Mothercare is also expected to announce a dip in trading, with UK sales thought to have dropped 4.5 per cent in the past three months, according to analyst forecasts from stockbroker Panmure.

Overall, official retail sales data for June is expected to show a rise of around 0.5 per cent in sales volumes, with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee providing a much needed feel-good-factor for the industry.
