The infamous ‘pasty tax’ which once threatened to eat into Greggs’ profit margins has had the opposite effect, according to Reuters.

The well-publicised tax boosted awareness of the UK’s largest food-on-the-go retailer, according to CEO Ken McMeikan.

Greggs now plans to open a further 90 stores throughout the UK in 2012-13.

The business was recently valued at £511 million.
