Samsung banned from selling Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the US Wednesday, 27th June 2012

A US court has banned the sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet in the States, while it considers the firm’s patent dispute with rival tech giant Apple.

The trial for the case is scheduled to begin in California on 30 July, but Apple has already won a preliminary injunction against Samsung, with all sales of its Tab 10.1 tablet put on hold until a decision is made.

Speaking in San Francisco on Tuesday, US District Judge Lucy Koh said the injunction is justified by the similarity between Samsung’s tablet and the iPad, after Apple has previously claimed the tech giant “slavishly copied” its best-selling device.

"Although Samsung has a right to compete, it does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products," Koh said.

Apple will have to pay a £2.6 million bond before the tablet can be banned in case the injunction is later found to be unnecessary.
