Despite a dip in traffic for the first time, sales continued a steady month-on-month rise for May as conversion rates for mobile devices improved.
The latest research from Affiliate Window found that although retail traffic for mobile phones fell, the volume of sales through devices rose 7.85 per cent from 7.32 per cent the month before, suggesting conversion rates through mobile devices have strengthened.
Last month saw strong growth for the iPad as an m-commerce device, improving its share of sales week on week. Week 20 saw the iPad account for 53 per cent of mobile sales, rising to 64 per cent by week 23. This rise is thought to have had a knock-on-effect in the amount of transactions made through the iPhone and Android devices during this time, which both decreased significantly during the period.
The most popular categories for mobile traffic were Fashion and Clothing retail, which accounted for 35 per cent of all mobile traffic, above the percentage of desktop traffic the category receives, at 28.56 per cent. Electrical retail came in at 13.99 per cent, whilst Group Buying accounted for 10.21 per cent, both below their split of desktop traffic of 15.26 per cent and 12.61 per cent respectively.
