John Lewis has told the press it is looking to the future with optimism as the “Jubilee effect” helped reign in another double digit rise in weekly sales.

"With the (Queen's) Jubilee now behind us, our thoughts are turning to the summer of sport and in particular Euro 2012 and London 2012," the department store said today.

"These events, coupled with our own Clearance (Sale), which starts next week, mean that we should be able to keep up great momentum on the sales front."

The department store said sales increased 18.1 per cent year-on-year to £63.1 million in the week to 9 June.
