Apples barges Google maps out of iOS 6 Tuesday, 12th June 2012

Apple is dumping Google maps from the iPhone and iPad this autumn as well as forging stronger ties with social networking site Facebook as new alliances form in Silicon Valley.

Scott Forstall, Apple’s senior vice president of iOS software, debuted the new version of the Maps app on the unreleased iOS 6 mobile operating system at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco yesterday.

The new maps application includes turn-by-turn navigation and voice direction as well as crowdsourced traffic conditions from other iOS users.

Forstall also stated the new iOS will embed Facebook deeply into the iPhone’s software, allowing users update their walls with pictures, posts, ‘likes’ and calendar entries from almost any application.
