Discounters increase market share in cash-strapped climate Wednesday, 23rd May 2012

  

Cash-strapped consumers are heading to Aldi and Lidl for discounted goods, giving the retailers record market shares.

Aldi sales grew 25.4 per cent, giving the supermarket a 2.8 per cent share of the market over the 12 weeks to 13 May, according to Kantar Worldpanel.

Lidl claimed a 2.8 per cent share after growing 11.3 per cent.

Asda recorded a 6.5 per cent rise, just ahead of Sainsbury’s 3 per cent boost as well as Tesco’s 1.9 per cent and Morrisons’ 1.2 per cent.
