Fortnum & Mason chief resigns Tuesday, 17th April 2012

Beverley Aspinall has announced she will step down from her position as chief executive of the prestigious department store at the end of May.

According to the Independent, Aspinall said she would leave her role at Fortnum & Mason of seven years “to pursue other challenges,” adding that “the time is right to move”.

Many perceive Aspinall to be the driving force behind Fortnum’s recent resurgence. When the outgoing chief executive took charge of the retailer in 2005, it was making a pre-tax loss of £1.2 million. Aspinall departs on the back of last year’s pre-tax profits, which topped £1.1 million.
