Amazon sells over 1 million Kindles each week Friday, 16th December 2011

Amazon.com Inc on Thursday announced it is selling over one million Kindle devices each week, a well-timed disclosure from the Internet retailer, which follows a spate of negative reviews of its new Kindle Fire tablet.

Customers are buying “well over” one million Kindles a week, according to Amazon, who added in a statement to press that this trend in sales has occurred for three straight weeks.

The sales numbers include the Kindle Fire tablet and all versions of the Kindle e-reader.

It is a rare announcement for Amazon, who has never before given a sales number for a week, but instead stuck to vague ballpark figures. The statement follows a round of negative reviews of the e-tailer’s Kindle Fire that focussed on its slow response from the user interface and Web browser, and the need for more privacy and child settings.
