Samsung considers ‘UK ban on iPhone 5’ Thursday, 22nd September 2011

The South Korean company could seek an injunction in Europe and Korea against Apple’s new iPhone, which it has alleged will use technology that violates its patents.

Although the features of Apple’s latest protégé remain shrouded in secrecy, Samsung believes the phone will rely on telecoms patents that it holds according to South Korea’s Maeli Business Newspaper.

The latest court case will come as no surprise as the two companies continue a slew of legal battles. Apple initially sued Samsung in the US back in April, accusing it of ‘slavishly’ copying products created by rivals. Samsung counter-sued almost immediately.

Speaking on the turn of events, a Samsung spokesman told press: “We are preparing aggressive legal suits against Apple, shifting away from our defensive strategy. We stand a good chance of winning the cases if we use our patents related to wireless communications standards.”

If an injunction were to be passed, it would deal a significant blow to Apple, which is now the largest company in the world but draws around half of its revenue from the iPhone.
