Shoppers prepare for food price hikes Wednesday, 31st August 2011

90 per cent of shoppers expect food prices to rise in the year ahead and will visit different retailers in a bid to save the most money.

According to IGD ShopperTrack, 29 per cent of shoppers intend to use more discount grocery stores in the next 12 months, and 16 per cent say they will do more of their shopping at frozen food specialists such as Iceland.

39 per cent of shoppers with children expect to increase their use of grocery discounters over the next year.

These figures are indicative of the harsh conditions in the retail sector that seem reluctant to budge. In an attempt to win customers back, retailers are introducing fixed price meal deals at increasing rates.
